Video Games in Education
Games are powerful influences on our students. How can they be used to enhance the education process? In this research project, I explored how video games are influencing our students. Additionally, I examine what research says about how video games affect children and how these findings can be used to inform video game implementation in classroom settings.
Note: The Prezi takes a while to load. If you start to hear noises later in the presentation, go back and pause the videos. Even if you skip them, they tend to play in the background. The best strategy is to let them play for a few seconds. Get a 30 second snapshot of the video (or more if interested), pause it and move on. |

The Shallows - What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains
This is a paper I wrote in my time with Dr. Crow. This book discusses the possibility that the internet is eroding our ability to focus for long periods of time and engage in deep reading and learning. Much like our ancestors gave up oral history stored in their brains to books, Carr argues that something similar is happening with information and the internet. Things that we used to store in our brain are now being given to the internet which makes our minds more dull and less rich. In this paper, I agree with Carr on some points, but I also think that humans have the ability to control their use of electronics and continue in deep thought with the things they are most passionate. While we might not store everything we used to, we now store the things for which we desire most. This book has sparked multiple discussions with my staff at Prince of Peace.

Evaluation Tool - Monitoring Effectiveness of Video Tutorials on YouTube
This is an evaluation tool made in order to evaluate YouTube tutorials at our school. If views exceed a certain number, they're deemed effective; if they fall below that number, they're categorized as being either average or poor. If they're average or poor, the videos need to be updated. Additionally, it's set up to analyze video for the amount of time that it's viewed each time. If on average, less than 70% of the video is watched, it should be updated.
